Earlier this year I was commissioned by Hunt Brothers pizza to capture and create social media content for NASCAR driver Joey Logano. I would being working alongside a video team capturing blue screen to camera reads.
The client also requested images that had more mood, in addition to a high key commercial look. For this I built two sets in order to minimize the downtime
An often overlooked aspect working with athletes is the importance of keeping a good steady workflow. Actors are used to being put on hold while the production sets up the next scene. This is not the case for athletes, we want to keep them engaged and focused. Losing the talent to downtime can wreck the production schedule, possibly leading to overtime for the crew.
This is why a video and stills combination is a great partnership. Video can pivot and send the talent to the stills set. This gives them time to make changes on their end and keep the work going, Making for a more efficient working environment. Which often leads to finishing the day early.
I like to treat my time with the drivers like a pit stop. High quality precision work, accomplished at a rapid pace. If the photo team can gain back time lost elsewhere it is a win for everyone involved. Production work is a team effort.
