Nexans - Industrial Reportage

One of my favorite shows is How It’s Made. This past job was like me being on my own episode. Just before Thanksgiving I was commissioned by CAPA Pictures for industrial reportage of the NEXANS plant located in Goose Creek, SC. Nexans is a global player of the energy transition listed on Euronext Paris. For over 120 years, Nexans has brought energy to life by providing customers with advanced cable technologies and services.
Today, Nexans goes beyond cables to become a pure player in electrification.

Nexans was awarded a turnkey contract to supply power export cables for Scotland’s Seagreen offshore windfarm project. Nexans subsea and land cables will provide power for up to 1 million Scottish homes helping the UK achieve its clean energy targets. When completed in 2022/23 Seagreen 1 will be Scotland’s largest wind farm and single largest source of renewable energy, providing a significant contribution to Scotland’s net zero ambition and enough clean, renewable energy to power 1 million homes.

I spent the day with a Nexans supervisor who explained the process from start to finish. We moved from each stage of production capturing not only the specialized equipment but the team needed to manufacture the high output power cables. Nexans also has the tallest structure in South Carolina, The 427-foot concrete tower at the Nexans high voltage cable manufacturing plant uses gravity to coat copper and aluminum cabling while keeping the cable straight.
